Year 2024 May Day was not only marked with the celebration of Ikosi-isheri LCDA workers but also with the celebration of the youths as a thrilling Table Tennis Tournament was organized for youths at the Council Secretariat.
The event, organized through a collaboration between the Mayoress of Ikosi-isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Mr. Orimoloye Oluwadamilare, was not just a sporting spectacle but a testament to Mr. Governor's and Mayoress' commitment to promoting healthy competition and community engagement.
The tournament brought together enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of friendship and sportsmanship. Participants from various neighborhoods and backgrounds eagerly showcased their talents, igniting fierce yet friendly rivalries on the table.
Other participants were also engaged with various board games like scrabble, drafts, Ayo Olopon, Ludo and the likes.
Beyond the thrill of victory, the tournament also served as a platform for social cohesion and community bonding. Families, friends, and residents gathered to cheer for their favorites, fostering a sense of unity and pride in local talent.
"This is one of our ways of promoting youth and sports development in the LCDA. We have free ICT programs, Football training, Boxing training and other initiatives which are first of its kind, being organized by our administration. It is our way of appreciating our youths and supporting them to be gainfully engaged", said the Mayoress.
Mr. Orimoloye Oluwadamilare said in his remark:" This initiative testifies to one of the impacts of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Lagos youths, as exemplified in his THEMES+ agenda. We have the monthly 'Keep Fit' program and others. It's our way of engaging the youths in the way of sports and recreation.
"I want to commend the Mayoress for making this collaboration possible. I urge other local governments and LCDA chairmen to emulate her".
In the end, Ayanwale Jamiu from Ward E, and Odusanya Bose, from Ward B emerged winners of the Men and Ladies categories respectively, while all winners smiled home with medals and cash prizes.
